Style and Character

The Bangkok Treehouse is a unique boutique property that lives off more than its remote location. The smart restaurant, with indoor air-conditioned seating, and lobby area are both built on several wooden platforms on the banks of the river while the rooms, essentially small two-storey towers reached on wooden walkways that are lined with dense vegetation, offer maximum privacy. This is a great romantic retreat for couples.

Service and Facilities

Facilities are simple. There's plenty of public terrace space to while away an afternoon and a narrow concrete jetty leads to a small pavilion on the river's edge. Guests can use the resort's bicycles free of charge to explore Bang Krachao. Drinking water is free, as is tea and coffee along with homemade ice cream. Depending on season, guests can enjoy a firefly tour around the hotel. The staff, most of them part of the local community are very friendly though English is limited.

Rooms

The rooms are very compact three-storey towers. The downstairs hall doubles as a simple bathroom with two showers and a minibar. A very steep flight of stairs leads to the air-conditioned bedroom which is dominated by a king-sized bed raised on a wooden platform, helped along by a computer, great lighting, lots of mirrors and little else.

A sliding door leads onto a spacious roof terrace with a table and chairs. From here a steep ladder leads onto the roof, topped by a double hammock raised on a platform from where guests can enjoy excellent views over the treetops to the river and in the far distance, Bangkok's skyline.

Food and Drink

The food is simple and excellent, and besides the Thai standards some quite unique Thai fusion dishes make it onto the menu. The watermelon salad, with onions, chili, tangerine and mint, is particularly good, as is the pan-fried fish fillet that comes with mango sweet and sour sauce. Some vegetables are organically sourced. Breakfast is very simple – eggs, herbal tea or instant coffee and a little fruit.

Family-Friendly?

Families are welcome but parents will need to be alert – there are plenty of stairs and bannisters where kids might fall.
