Buffalo Conservation Village
Ban Kwai, or the Buffalo Village, is a place that collects stories and lifestyles of people in the rural areas, lifestyles that are fading away. It's another must-visit place if you ever have the chance to travel to Suphanburi because it is a province where the primary occupation is agriculture, and the "buffalo" has been an animal raised for labor, living alongside the people of Suphanburi throughout history.
The Thai Buffalo Conservation Village, or as the locals simply call it "Ban Kwai," is located along Highway No. 340, which is the main road of Si Prachan District, Suphan Buri Province. Ban Kwai is a project that reflects the way of life of rural Thais in the past, which had a close relationship and connection with buffaloes.
For tourism in the Buffalo Conservation Village, the focus is on conservation-oriented tourism. Firstly, the conservation is centered around issues related to the buffalo. Secondly, it's about rice, as Suphanburi Province is known for its agriculture prominence, especially rice farming. It is a province that produces rice ranked in the top five of the country.
The Thai Buffalo Conservation Village thus recognizes the importance of buffaloes, which have been with Thai farmers since ancient times, helping in rice production, plowing fields, to provide food for the entire country. It is a partner in hardship and support for Thai farmers. In line with the present, it is considered that machinery has now completely replaced buffaloes in farming, eliminating the traditional role of the buffalo in plowing and farming, which in turn has caused their numbers to rapidly decline.
