The importance of the tourism business in terms of the economic-social impacts of COVID-19
COVID19 has had a huge impact in Thailand.
The COVID-19 pandemic that began around December 2019 had a significant impact on both Thai tourism and global travel, causing international travel to come to a halt and affecting the number of foreign tourists entering Thailand. Due to the spread of COVID-19, Thailand saw a substantial decrease in revenue generated from foreign tourism.
Studying the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector, such as hotels, restaurants, and related businesses, is pivotal since these sectors have been severely impacted by the situation. Furthermore, they were affected by various government measures such as lockdowns to control and prevent the spread of the virus, as well as the closure of national and forest parks as announced by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation. These containment measures resulted in both Thai and foreign tourists cancelling their travel plans and hotel bookings, and organizations cancelling hotel-based conferences and seminars, leading to a significant loss of income for the hotel business.
